Our newest Modern Muse is founder of The Sculpt Society, Megan Roup –
a dance cardio maven & new mom to baby girl, Harlow. We caught up with her at her home in LA to capture what a day in the life looks like for Megan, from dusk to dawn.
Here, we catch up with Megan as she walks us through a typical morning, from her trendy, go-to breakfast to how her workouts have evolved pre- and post-baby.
BREAKFAST
I love my morning routine! I’ll have lemon water, coffee, do a short 5-8 minute meditation and gratitude practice, and then workout from The Sculpt Society app. This really helps me stay grounded and positive. For breakfast, I really love coffee, so you'll definitely find me making some French press, and then I’ll have scrambled eggs, avocado, and Ezekiel toast with Kite Hill cream cheese. That’s definitely my go-to.
1st TO 4th WORKOUT
During my pregnancy, exercise was a really big part of my day to day. It really kept me going and staying positive. I really made sure I was doing a little bit of The Sculpt Society every day, whether that was a quickie arm or booty workout - whatever it was that I could squeeze in was so, so helpful in that process.
POSTPARTUM WORKOUT
Working out post-partum, however, has been a whole other story. I think in these early days, just reconnecting with my core and my pelvic floor has been a game changer in my recovery. So now that I'm six weeks post-partum, I'm just slowly easing exercise back in, which again is just part of how I stay positive. Getting a little bit of a workout in every day has been really, really nice.
For new moms or anyone dealing with Diastasis Recti, it’s really important to work on reconnecting to our pelvic floor and core postpartum before going back into traditional exercise. Moms are also so strapped on time, so if finding time to exercise feels overwhelming, try committing to just 10-15 minutes a day consistently. Speedy workouts, like my quickies on The Sculpt Society app, are a great place to start.
PRE- AND POST-FITNESS
There unfortunately isn't a lot of guidance out there for women in pre and postnatal fitness. So many women are scared to exercise during pregnancy or found prenatal fitness programs out there limited, extremely slow, and boring. I created TSS MAMA (my pre and postnatal fitness program) so that women had a robust, safe, FUN way to workout throughout all trimesters and into their 4th trimester (AKA, postpartum.) Sadly, there is virtually zero information given to women postpartum once they're cleared to workout by their doctors at 6-8 weeks. A lot of women end up going back to regular exercise too soon and cause more Diastasis Recti (abdominal separation). I am excited to have my postpartum program available so that women have the right tools to reconnect with their pelvic floor and core properly.
PERCEPTION IS EVERYTHING
I think my appreciation for all that our bodies do for us has really increased. It’s truly amazing that we can grow, deliver, and feed a little human with our body.
